Junction Design

ARCADY, PICADY, OSCADY PRO, OSCADY Classic and TRANSYT junction design tools

TRL’s junction design software packages are some of the most popular and widely used traffic design packages in the world, being used in over 60 countries for a wide variety of assessment and modelling work.

ARCADY is used for the assessment of roundabouts. It is able to accurately predict accident rates, capacity and delay (both queueing and geometric) for almost any size of roundabout, ranging from multi-armed grade separated roundabouts to mini-roundabouts in suburban locations.

PICADY incorporates TRL's extensive research into junction design issues and predicts accident rates, capacities, queue lengths and delays (both queueing and geometric) at non-signalised major/minor priority junctions.

OSCADY PRO is a phase-based traffic signal optimisation program to complement OSCADY Classic.  The software makes use of a number of unique optimisation techniques and can be used for isolated juntions, or the results can be exported into TRANSYT for use in linked systems.

OSCADY Classic is used for the optimisation of signals at almost any isolated signal controlled junction. As well as predicting capacity and delay (both queueing and geometric) at any new junction it can also assess the effects of modifying existing designs. It includes a sophisticated accident analysis module.

ARCADY, PICADY, OSCADY PRO and OSCADY Classic can model both drive-on-the-left or drive-on-the-right junctions (subject to licence conditions).

TRANSYT determines optimum fixed-time co-ordinated traffic signal timings in any network. It is suitable for use in urban centres, extended networks, signalised roundabouts and motorway junctions - indeed, for any network of roads for which the average traffic flows are known.  Its use around the world reflects its international appropriateness.  The latest version (TRANSYT 13) represents the biggest step-change in the product's history, in terms of functionality and investment by TRL.
