Problem: I cannot correct flows to reflect the allocation of flows that I want. Using either Lane-balancing or Path-equalisation appears to help a little, but still does not allocate some flows as I would like and each fails to allow me to even correct entry flows into the network to match local matrix totals.
Answer: There is never a guarantee that the allocation method used will suit ALL situations – so there is the facility to overwrite whichever allocation of flows (to each path) you don’t like. This is done using the “Paths” tab – see screen shot (and AG65 Section 11.3.3). The allocation type is defaulted to “Normal” which basically means it will use whatever of the two automatic allocation methods you have chosen – either “path allocation” or “lane balancing”. If neither of these is working as you want them to, then you can change from “normal” to one of the other allocation types – “Fixed” (flow), “percentage” or even “disable” paths that you consider no traffic would use to make that journey. This offers as much flexibility in the allocation process as you should need.
